Comparison of Accuracy and Reproducibility of Commercially Available Gram Negative Bacilli Identification Kit Systems
Abstract
Quite a few commerical identification kits are now available for the identification of Gram negative bacilli, particularly for the enteric bacteria.
Three different identification systems; API 20E, MICRO-ID and N- ID-EB 20 had been subjected to test their accuracy, reproducibility and agreement between the systems. The strains used were ATCC registered and pre-identified strains. Their accuracy and reproducibility was in acceptable range in general except that MICRO-ID and NID-EB 20 failed to classify some strains because they are not listed in the programmed profiles. The agreement between the systems was also within 95%. It is recommendable that at least two different systems should be used as a set to check the escapable organisms by one system.
